Description: | This is a recipe card for a Diamond Jubilee strawberry crumble crunch'. It was given away for free by Waitrose supermarket during the celebrations for Queen Elizabeth II's Diamond Jubilee in June 2012. On the front is a photograph of a large glass dish of layered strawberries and cream. It is pictured on a table laid with a table cloth and napkin. There is Union Jack bunting in the background. There is the official cartoon logo for the Jubilee, a photograph of celebrity chef Heston Blumenthal, and a banner which says Recommended by Heston'. On the reverse is a list of the ingredients required and the recipe, set out in numbered stages. There is a paragraph of text by Heston Blumenthal describing how to serve the pudding. It states I have designed this indulgent pudding especially for the Queen's Jubilee weekend, which coincides with the beginning of the British strawberry season. It makes me proud to be British!' There is also information on the nutritional values of the pudding and a picture of the Union Jack with the words Championing British / The Waitrose way'. The Jubilee celebrations took place during a wider trend for baking. Sales of baking equipment increased significantly during 2011 and television programmes featuring baking were popular. There was also a wider interest in food and cooking, and celebrity chefs' presented cookery programmes and ran high profile restaurants. Heston Blumenthal became famous as a proponent of molecular gastronomy', blending science with cooking to produce unusual dishes such as bacon and egg ice-cream frozen using liquid nitrogen, and snail porridge. Waitrose is part of the John Lewis group and is at the higher end of supermarket trading in terms of price and quality.
