Description: | 20 Iron Age silver staters, 18 Iron Age and Early Roman pottery. Treasure case no. 2010 T323 (addenda to 2005 T443).Twenty Iron Age coins were found by twelve members of the Isle of Wight metal-detecting club whilst using metal detectors on cultivated land near Brighstone, Isle of Wight on 19th May 2010. They were spread within an area of about 25m diameter. Some sherds of pottery were also found. The discovery was reported to the Finds Liaison Officer for the Isle of Wight, Frank Basford and brought to the British Museum for identification in October 2010 (2010 T323). A further three Iron Age coins were found in the same area on 17th April 2011 and brought to the British Museum in June 2011 (2011 T286 marked * in the list below). The location of the discovery is in the same place as a previous find of 968 Iron Age silver coins discovered in 2005 (2005 T443) and subsequently declared Treasure.Eighteen sherds of pottery were discovered in the same area as the coins. They appear to be Late Iron Age to Roman in date but they are not all of the same fabric. Most are abraded and it is therefore not possible to say if any pieces came from the same vessel. Three appear to be rim fragments and one a base fragment. Fifteen fragments of a ceramic vessel were found with the 2005 hoard, thought to have been from the base of a late Iron Age jar in which the hoard was contained. From the photographs of the 2005 fragments, it is unlikely that the new fragments come from this vessel as the majority are clearly of different fabric.
