Description: | A group of 24 copper-alloy Roman. Treasure case no. 2010 T547 (addenda to 2008 T558).The coins consist of a mixture of copper alloy denominations known as dupondii, asses and sestertii and are mostly worn in appearance. The latest identifiable coin of the hoard is a sestertius of Commodus dated to c. AD 183-184. The group of coins can be summarised as follows: Uncertain Nero or Vespasian (AD 54-79) 1 Domitian (AD 81-96) 1 Hadrian (AD 117-38) 2 Sabina 1 Uncertain Hadrian or Antoninus Pius 1 Antoninus Pius (AD 138-61) 8 Faustina II 1 Uncertain Antonine emperor 1 Commodus (AD 180-192) 1 Illegible 7 Total 24 Metal Content and Age The coins satisfy the terms of the Treasure Act with regard to age and quantity, being base metal coins over than 300 years old of a quantity over ten. This pattern fits well with that which might be expected for a hoard of Roman coins of copper alloy denominations deposited late in the second century AD. The composition of the group is similar to that of the group found in the same place in 2008 (2008 T558).
