Description: | Bronze Age axe; cast copper alloy socketed axehead. A copper alloy Late Bronze Age socketed axehead. The socket aperture is rectangular in shape and the object measures; Length 114.6mm, width (blade) 59.1mm, width (collar below mouth) 39.4mm, thickness (collar below mouth) 39.0mm, weight 361.0g. The axehead is wedge shaped with a wide sub-circular socket. The mouth has a flattened upper mouth moulding. The moulding is unusually crude. There is then a wide undecorated band, followed by the second much smaller lower mouth moulding. Internally the socket tapers and narrows to a rectangular shape close to the cutting edge. It then expands into the blade. The cutting edge is well rounded, but has become chipped and corroded. A D-shaped sectioned attachment loop is present to one side of the axehead just below the lower mouth moulding. It is rather crude and slightly damaged.
