Description: | A group of eighteen lead alloy objects, originally recorded as polyhedral weights, of Early Medieval date, but now though to be Post Medieval buckshot. Each consists of a globule of metal impressed with a number of circular depressions. Nine are dark grey and of better quality with clear depressions. The others are more corroded and less clear. These are similar to Treasure Case number 2004 T411, a probable Viking weight also made of lead alloy (and so determined to be Not Treasure). Compare also SWYOR-E809B3 and SWYOR-21D072.Though originally recorded as polyhedral weights, the number of similar finds raises the possibility that these are pellets fired from a gun, similar to grape shot but smaller, and of Post Medieval date. Compare examples of buckshot in Harding (2012) "Lead Shot of the English Civil War", for example, Plate 21.
