Description: | Descriptive catalogue1. Winged-axe with loopWinged axe with loop of Late Bronze Age date with green/brown patina well preserved for a considerable proportion of the surface area, within pitting and flaking in some places. A casting seam visible between butt and loop but otherwise absent/removed. The surface of the butt is rough and may have been broken off or represent the surface of the casting. Striations around the cutting edge may relate to the original use of the blade. The wings of the axe are damaged on both sides of the blade.Dimensions: Length of blade (from centre of cutting blade): 103.5mm; Width of cutting blade: 42.5mm; Height of axe at wings: 29mm; Width of axe at wings: 33mm; Width of loop (external): 24.5mm; Height of loop (external): 90mm; Width of loop (internal): 9.5mm; height of loop: 5mmWeight: 303g2. Group of copper alloy 'plates' broken from a larger object309 copper alloy 'plates' and plate fragments of various but relatively uniform size (Max: 72mm by 100mm) and a relatively regular thickness of c.3-5mm. Among the plates are several with bevelled edges and rounded corners, although most have flat/smooth surfaces, a small number are corroded and have rougher casting edges and two have perforations. Several of the plates with two, opposed bevelled edges are c.100mm wide, suggesting that this was the original width of the object(s) from which the plates were broken off.Associated finds (not of prehistoric date)6.
