Description: | A copper alloy Medieval seal matrix dating from 1200 - 1400. The matrix is a pointed oval (vessica) shape. The iconography of the central motif is difficult to decipher. To one side a large figure in profile holds up a ?staff that reaches to the top of the border. A horizontal line extends across the motif from his waist and another connects the upraised arm and the former line, delineating roughly a triangular area. A cluster of three dots appear on this. Opposite this are two smaller figures possibly in profile. Below is a man, in profile, with his hand held out possibly in prayer or perhaps pointing to a triangular object beside him. The inscription is "MEMENTO MEI DOMINE" from "Memento mei domine dum veneris in regnum tuum", from St Luke's gospel, Ch 23, v42 in King James Bible - "He said unto Jesus, Lord remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom"On the reverse is an integrally cast perforated lug The object has a dark green patina and is in good condition.
