Description: | An incomplete cast copper-alloy seal matrix of Medieval date, missing the top of the suspension loop due to old breaks. It has a flat circular die with conical terminal that tapers to an oval shaped suspension loop with incomplete circular aperture and moulded transverse collar that has incised double grooves. At the centre of the die is an uncertain motif, possibly a grotesque, within an inner circle. The surrounding legend is poorly preserved but appears to read []IE SV NV[T?...], its precise reading uncertain. This seal measures 20.76mm in height, 18.35mm in diameter, and weighs 6.41g.The form of this seal matrix is typical of examples dating to the 14th century AD, the legend possibly being a derivation of other similar matrices that read, for example, 'Je su nul tel' ('there is none like me') and have grotesques as the central device (Harvey and McGuinness, 1996: pp. 88-89, 116. It dates to the 14th century AD, c.1300-1400 AD.
