Description: | TREASURE CASE 2012 T571: The hoard consists of a group of seven lead-alloy copies of Early Medieval pennies known as sceattasDescription:The hoard consists of six struck flans and one blank flan. Diameter: 11.1mm, Weight 0.9g6) Same as above. Diameter: 10.9mm, Weight 0.9g7) lead-alloy blank, Diameter 13.1mm, 1gConclusion The metal content of these coins has not been tested by scientific analysis. They appear to be lead-alloy & therefore do not meet the 10% precious metal content threshold to be considered as Treasure under this stipulation of the 1996 Treasure Act.This small hoard in isolation also does not meet the Treasure Act's stipulation that a hoard of base metal coins must consist of 10 or more coins. This hoard is however believed to represent outliers of an earlier Treasure case (2008 T380) which consisted of 37 objects (namely 20 struck flans and 17 blank/partially prepared flans) which was recovered from the same field.Since the reporting of 2008 T380, however, it has become apparent that in this region of Lincolnshire certain sites known to be favoured by metal detector users have been deliberately 'seeded' with modern lead-alloy copies of these early Medieval coins & that both the earlier case, 2008 T380 and therefore this present case 2012 T571 do not meet the requirement of the Treasure Act in being over 300 years old.In summary the above hoard is deemed as 'not Treasure'.
