Description: | A cast copper alloy bead of possibly dating to the late Iron Age. The object is asymmetric, and circular in plan. The bead is sub-oval in cross-section and thickens at the base which measures 7.90mm in thickness. The top of the object measures 3.40mm in thickness. At the top of the object is a circular perforation with an internal diameter of 5.30mm. The object is solid and has a casting line around its circumference. The object is in good condition and has a smooth black patina which is worn away in places to reveal light green corrosion.A number of similar shaped beads made of bone or shale have been recorded from sites of Iron Age/Roman occupation, (peers comm. Dr. K Leahy).A bead of similar shape has been recorded on the database as Post-Medieval, however the example is made of sheet metal, Blevins, M (2012) SWYOR-EF36C5 A POST MEDIEVAL BEAD Webpage available at: http://finds.org.uk/database/artefacts/record/id/481191. Another similar example dating to the Iron Age is Oakden, V (2010) LVPL-D5AFB2 A IRON AGE UNIDENTIFIED OBJECT Webpage available at: http://finds.org.uk/database/artefacts/record/id/415461.
