Description: | A group of twenty, lead alloy, globular artefacts, originally recorded as polyhedral weights, probably of Early Medieval date, but now thought to be Post Medieval buckshot. Each consists of a globule of metal, some of them impressed with one or more circular depressions. All are quite small, ranging in size from 3.9mm in diameter to 7.1mm in diameter and in weight, from 0.47 to 1.61gm. The total weight is 13.94gm.These are similar to Treasure Case number 2004 T411, a probable Viking weight also made of lead alloy (and so determined to be Not Treasure), as well as SWYOR-21D072, SWYOR-E0A6C4 and SWYOR-E809B3 all from the same area. Though recorded as polyhedral weights, the number of similar finds raises the possibility that these are pellets fired from a gun, similar to grape shot but smaller, and of Post Medieval date. Compare examples of buckshot in Harding (2012) "Lead Shot of the English Civil War", for example, Plate 21.
