Description: | A cast copper alloy sub-rectangular shoe buckle dating to the Post-Medieval period. The object is a two piece buckle with a separate iron centre bar, copper alloy stud chape and a copper alloy pin. The buckle frame is D-shaped in cross-section. The pin is incomplete due to a modern break and is D-shaped in cross-section. The object has a stud chape, however the stud is missing leaving a circular perforation where it would have been attached. The chape is stamped the maker's mark which reads S/COOK. The object has a mid green patina and has been silvered or tinned. There is some iron corrosion visible at either end of the centre bar. The object can be dated from AD1650-1725.A similar example which can be found on the database from North Yorkshire which is stamped with the mark S/COOK is Downes, A (2011) SWYOR-2777E5 A POST MEDIEVAL BUCKLE Webpage available at: http://finds.org.uk/database/artefacts/record/id/455941.
