Description: | An incomplete copper alloy trade weight of medieval date. The weight is discoidal with a central circular indentation and two radiating circumferential grooves. The upper surface is stamped with a crowned lombardic "h". Roughly one quarter of the weight has been lost to old breaks.During the reign of Henry VII an attempt at further standardisation of trade weighs was attempted and all official weights were order to be stamped with the crowned "h" devise. This convention continued into the reign of Henry VIII. (Biggs, p.48-49)
