Description: | A group of eleven, lead alloy, globular artefacts, originally recorded as possible polyhedral weights, of Early Medieval date (AD410-1066), but now thought to be Post Medieval buckshot. Each consists of a rough cube of metal with chamfered corners with some of the facets impressed with one or more circular depressions. All are quite small, ranging in size from 3.34mm in diameter to 7.77mm in diameter and in weight, from 0.13 to 1.93gm. The total weight is 8.97gm.Similar examples can be seen on the Portable Antiquities database: SWYOR-E0A6C4 and SWYOR-E809B3 from the same area. Though recorded as polyhedral weights, the number of similar finds raises the possibility that these are pellets fired from a gun, similar to grape shot but smaller, and of Post Medieval date. Compare examples of buckshot in Harding (2012) "Lead Shot of the English Civil War", for example, Plate 21.The metal is a dark grey in colour
