Description: | A copper-alloy strap end dating to the Early medieval period (AD 750 - 900). The strap end is of Thomas Class A type and features a split end and a tapering plate. It is triangular in plan and rectangular in cross-section. The obverse of the strap end is divided into three panels by two transverse ridges and tapers towards the tip. The obverse features zoomorphic and foliate designs inlaid with niello. The split end of the strap end shows evidence of an old break, however, two rivet holes partially survive which would have attached the strap end to the strap material. The strap end is 49.97mm long, 9.98mm wide at its widest point and is 3.43mm thick. It weighs 8.15g.Cf: Thomas, G, 2003, pp. 3.
