Description: | Copper alloy six deniers piece or dardenne of Louis XIV of France (1661-1715), minted at La Rochelle, a seaport on the Bay of Biscay in western France, between 1710-1712, mis-struck so that is it now off-centre. This type was designed to consume locally mined copper along with scrap bronze and brass from cannons from the naval arsenals in Toulon and Marseilles to pay off soldiers serving there.Obverse description: Central triangle with a pair of lines radiating from each of its sides terminating in crowns. A fleur de lis springs from each corner of triangle. The letter 'H' within the triangle refers to the mint of La Rochelle.Obverse inscription: [LOVIS.XIIII.ROY].DE.FRANCE.ET.DE.NAV]Reverse description: Short cross anillee with fleur de lis terminals (croix anillée, fleurdelisée) with a pellet in the central circle.Reverse inscription: SIX.DENIERS.[DE.FRANCE.17..]
