Description: | A group of seventeen, lead alloy, globular artefacts, probably Post Medieval buckshot. Each is sub-spherical with small flat and concave surfaces. The total weight is 12.82gm.Similar examples can be seen on the Portable Antiquities database such as SWYOR-E0A6C4 and SWYOR-E809B3 from the same geographical area. Though sometimes recorded as Anglo-Scandinavian polyhedral weights, the number of similar finds makes it more likely that these are pellets fired from a gun, similar to grape shot but smaller, and of Post Medieval date. Compare examples of buckshot in Harding (2012) "Lead Shot of the English Civil War", for example, Plate 21. Buckshot was used for hunting throughout the Post Medieval period, as well as in warfare.
