Description: | Copper alloy openwork pilgrims badge fragment. The complete example would depict the Annunciation (the Angel Gabriel announcing to Mary she is to bear God's son), but only the right side remains. This has the angle Gabriel facing left holding a branch in his left hand and resting his right hand on top of a column. The column is very worn and may have depicted lilies (a symbol of Mary's purity). To the left would have been Mary. Behind the column is a small truncated loop.See SUR-FFF175, WILT-5366C8 and SUSS-2C4845 for complete examples.Date 1400-1550
