Description: | Part of a terminal from a late Early Medieval to Medieval cast copper alloy horse harness strap connector. The terminal was lozenge shaped in plan with slightly convex outer edges and a sub-circular hole in the centre. Only three corners and the connecting two sides now remain. The remainder, including the corner which connected on to connector bar, is now lost to worn and patinated breaks. There are rounded knops projecting from the outside of the three remaining corners. The back is bevelled around the hole and worn, in patricular towards one side which is indented almost opposite where the connector bar would have been. The remaining fragment 16.7mm long, 24.6mm and 5.1mm thick; it weighs 4.07 grams. The lonzenge shaped head with knops on the corner and a bevelled back are typical features of 11th century Anglo-Scandinavian harness fittings numerous examples of which are recorded on the database, such as BH-3068D6 and SUSS-6EA163. Williams (2007:1) illustrates an example with the attachment in place, fig. 1 and a complete cheek piece with similar terminals (ibid. 2), Figure 2a.
