Description: | A cast copper alloy seal matrix dating from the Post-Medieval to Modern period. The object is cast in one piece, is conical and octagonally facetted. At the top of the object is an oval suspension loop which is surmounted by a small oval knop. Just below the loop is a circumferential collar. The actual face of the seal carries a design of cross-hatching in the form of projecting lozenges. The object is corroded and dark brown in colour. It is unlikely that this seal was ever intended for practical use but was probably meant purely for display or as a trinket. A similar example which can be found on the database is Oakden, V (2010) LVPL-5824C1 A POST MEDIEVAL SEAL MATRIX Webpage available at: http://finds.org.uk/database/artefacts/record/id/412171.
