This scene shows the kitchen of the Flying Horse pub in Newcastle's Groat Market. It was the meeting place for beggars, street-sellers and entertainers. The violinist Blind Willie is shown seated at the front of the group. The various people were recorded in a North-East song known as 'Hell's Kitchen'. This engraving was made not long after Henry Perlee Parker painted the orginal picture, which was owned by the local MP, Charles Brandling.
