The Defence medal, 1939-1945. A circular, silver coloured medal, the obverse shows profile of King George VI, the reverse shows the Royal Crown on the stump of an oak tree, flanked by a lion and a lioness. The ribbon has an orange stripe down the centre (representing enemy attacks), with green stripes (represnting Britains 'green and pleasant land') on either side and fine black stripes (representing blackouts) through the green stripes.
