Description: | A reproduction produced by the Vasari Society of a drawing from the Veronese School. The drawing shows three sets of three figures. The group towards the left edge of the composition is sitting on a bench with their backs to the viewer. The group in the centre is standing partly behind a low wall; the left-hand figure of this grouping is facing forwards while the other two are facing towards the left. Of the right-hand group, two are standing and the man closest to the left is sitting in front of the low wall (behind which the centre group is standing). The man at the desk is holding a piece of paper in his lap with his left hand, and has a quill in his right hand. The standing figures beside this man have their arms folded.
Text from the accompanying booklet produced by the Vasari Society:
"No. 9
VERONESE SCHOOL (?)
(Early Fifteenth Century)
STUDY FOR A COUNCIL-SCENE
Collection of Mr. W. Bateson. (From the Richardson, jun., Collection.)
Pen and bistre on tinted paper. 11 x 20.8 cm. (4 3/8 x 8 1/8 in.)
Nine figures standing or seated in groups of three each. Closely related to the two preceding [1932.71.7 and 1932.71.8], and doubtless studies by the same hand for the same picture. The drawing bears on the back, like the two others, and inscription by Jonathan Richardson erroneously connecting it with Gozzoli's Triumph of St. Thomas.
