Her dress has a low neck and is pulled in at the waist with a belt with a large round buckle, which is decorated with a cameo head and the inscription ANGELICA KAUFFMAN. She is seated, turned to the right, with a pencil in her right hand resting in her lap, her left elbow leaning on the edge of a table amongst papers and books, her left hand touching her hair. One of the papers on the table is a drawing of a naval victory column. Plain dark background.
