Description: | This is a biblical scene depicting the Virgin Mary holding the infant Jesus, who is seated on a cushion, with his feet resting on a stone parapet in the left foreground. The young St John, holding out a bird by its wings, gazes up at Mary from bottom right corner. Mary is looking down at John, and wears a translucent veil, red dress, and draped in bright blue robes. There is a stone relief amongst trees behind the Virgin Mary to the left, apparently depicting Rebeccah on the right giving a bowl of water to Elieser on the left, with a camel in the centre. Red material hangs around the relief. There is a landscape background to the right with a castle on a hill, visible beyond the trees.
