Description: | Dagger, kindjal, straight double-edged blade cut with 3 fullers and etched with foliage. The grip is made from 2 pieces of walrus tusk, and the hilt and sheath mounts are made from nielloed silver struck with hall marks. The sheath is covered with black leather fitted on the back with a compartment for a (missing) utility knife. The locket has a raised band which is pierced to receive a leather loop used to attach the kindjal to a belt. The silver is struck with the Russian national 84 purity mark with left-facing woman’s head and initials (used 1896-1908), and with the maker’s initials AK within a rectangular stamp.
