Description: | An incomplete cast lead alloy disc, probably used as a crude sundial of Post-Medieval date. Three fragments of the object are present, two of which join, and it would have been circular when complete. The object is flat. At the centre of the largest fragment the edge of an incomplete perforation is visible which would have been at the centre of the object. This is surrounded by a circumferential band. Running 5.24mm from the outer edge of the object are two shallow circumferential grooves. On the rear of the object is a single circumferential groove bordering the edge of the object. The object is worn with a smooth light brown patina and may have originally contained numerals or markings which have worn away. The perforation would have held the now missing needle.Large fragment: 52.18mm in length, 45.82mm in width, 2.65mm thick, 31.5g.Medium fragment: 26.66mm in lenght, 45.54mm in width, 2.10mm thick, 11.6g.Small fragment: 26.80mm in length, 28.06mm in width, 1.94mm thick, 6.7g.Similar examples which can be found on the PAS database are Daubney, A (2012) LIN-121025 A POST MEDIEVAL SUNDIAL Webpage available at: http://finds.org.uk/database/artefacts/record/id/529478 and Scott, W (2011) LEIC-3C0387 A POST MEDIEVAL SUNDIAL Webpage available at: http://finds.org.uk/database/artefacts/record/id/440898.
