Description: | An incomplete cast copper alloy book clasp of Post-Medieval date. The object is sub-rectangular in plan and rectangular in cross-section. The object is flat with an incomplete rearward facing hook. The hook measures 9.70mm in width and 4.10mm in length. The opposite end of the object terminates with a recent break.The outer face is decorated with towards the hook with two transverse ridges with a recessed transverse field between. Within this is a foliate design. Above the inner transverse ridge is a band of small horizontal grooves. The centre of the clasp is decorated with two central punched flowers above and below which are three punched ring-and-dot motifs within a beaded lozenge. The incomplete end of the object is decorated with a circular rivet hole surrounded by three concentric circles. The rivet hole is infilled with corrosion.
