Description: | 7 gold Iron Age coins were found. Six of them date to the period about AD 20-50; one is up to a couple of decades older (see list). The coins fall into two broad groups - North Eastern inscribed gold staters, usually associated with the 'Corieltavi' tribe, and Western inscribed gold staters, ascribed to the 'Dobunni'.1. Western Iron Age gold stater inscribed EISV, about AD 20-50ABC 2078; weight 5.25g; diameter 17.5mm.ABC = Cottam et al, Ancient British Coinage, Aylsham (2010).Discussion: The coins easily satisfy the criteria of the Treasure Act (1996) with regard to their age and precious metal composition (they are made of an alloy of gold, silver and copper with at least 40-50% being precious metal). Although North Eastern and Western coins are rarely found together, a number of finds from the Worcestershire-Shropshire-Cheshire area combine coins of these two regional series. Given the reported circumstances of discovery, there is no reason to doubt that these represent a single hoard buried together in antiquity. In my opinion the above coins should be considered a prima facie case of Treasure.
